Vanity - it's Insanity

so, as i have been mentioning in my previous posts, i usually get blogging ideas at night, as i wait for sleep to join me. my own personal time to think about things ranging from normal daily routines to trivial and philosophical ideas about life. many ideas have come and go during that period of time even before having the opportunity for me to type it down as they get swallowed in my dreams. but tonight, a realization was drawn to my attention, great enough to urge me to write this down in my notebook so i can eventually post it up here.
so tonight, i was trying to evaluate my taste in music. i've always said that i listen to anything, any genre. what matters to me is what the song is trying to say. yes, i am a lyric person. there were some songs that initially caught my attention because of their beat, but after listening closely, it eventually gets my dismissal. so when social networking websites would ask me my type of music, i'd simply type down: "
anything that makes sense"
but if you ask me right now, at this very moment, who my favorite artist is, i'd instantly blurt out:
Jason Mraz.
i have to admit, it was just recently that i became one of his endearing fans. i have heard of "I'm Yours" a couple of times in the past years but it was just last 2008 that the song actually became a hit. and yes, it was that time that i actually paid attention to the artist behind it's brilliance, Jason Mraz. why? cause i've had the strange feeling that i know this guy. i knew i've heard of him somehow from so long ago. so, i searched online and boom - it hits me. "The Remedy" was one of the songs that caught my fancy back in 2000 as i religiously watch the Myx countdown, waiting to sing along with the songs of F4 that were contantly on the #1 spot. and so after solving that dilemma, i listened to some of his other songs and found out i was actually familiar with some of them without knowing that they were his - like "Geek in the Pink" and "You and I Both". it eventually led to my discovery of this other songs and right now,
i adore him!
but what is it really with Mr. A-Z that makes me love him
THIS much? that was the realization that i was finally able to grasp tonight as i was listening to his songs. why? because of the
optimism he has towards life. you can tell through his songs as he rarely sticks to sad and melodramatic topics that makes you go boohoo. and at times when he actually does, he emphasizes on the brighter side of it. it's like he refuses to sulk over the boohoo moments in life and chooses to get on with it, instead. that's what i like about Mraz. that's what i admire about him.
you want examples? try listening to "You and I Both", "A Beautiful Mess", and "Sleeping to Dream". or even "Lucky". these songs talk about moving on, a person's imperfections, loving the person whom he could only dream about, and long distance relationship. but see how he splashes color to these dull pictures.
Jason Mraz is his own genre. whenever you feel the world is getting ugly on you, just listen to his songs, and they channel you to this state of mind of optimism and lets you see that there is more to life than what we know of and that life.. is wonderful. the world isn't exactly a pretty place but that doesn't mean you can't have a happy life. happiness is just so simple to reach but we tend to confuse it with material and ambitious things, and that leads us to the misconception that being happy is hard to achieve. but the equation is actually just pretty simple, Love, and be happy. learn to love yourself and you enable others to love you, too. and that my friends, is what we all need -
Happiness is what we all aim for.
and as i have established, i am a lyric person and although Mraz's style is the wordplay, where the words just go mumbo-jumbo in the song, at the end, his lyrics actually does make a lot of sense. although at first, you'll prolly laugh at the sillyness of it, at the end of the day, he still manages to get a message through (ie "Life is Wonderful" where the lyrics are just so unbelievably silly and fun) and the guy, definitely has major talent with song writing as each of the song has its own unique, distinct and catchy beats. i know there are a lot of better singers out there, vocally, but with Mraz, it's not a throat competition. he sings with his soul and shares to the world all the positive chi you can ever get. what makes him a great artist is that he knows who he is, he knows his craft and he knows how to make use of it so well. no one can sing Mraz but Jason Mraz.
so go ahead and listen to his songs and feel the exact same motivating feeling i get with him and his songs -
the feeling of feeling good.
so yey optimism, yey positive chi, yey artistry.
Love Life. Love Music. Love Mraz.
*confession:
Mraz even tops over David Archuleta on my list (artistry-wise).-Peace Out!
